This process usually starts with some disappointment with your current position, with the company, the boss, you're prospects of advancing etc, and starting a home based business has been on your mind for a while. Alternatively your circumstances may have changed and you are more house bound and in serious need of some flexible working hours.
As in most processes, it is prudent to begin with a clear outline of what you wish to achieve out of your venture. Write out your goals and expectations on a price of paper and make a clear list of your goals. Make sure your goals are somewhere you can refer to them often, like on the first page of a diary or a commonly used notepad.
Next in line is to write a business plan. A business plan is used by most businesses and it is the rails from which you want your business to follow, ultimately leading you to your goals. If you are unsure on where to begin in writing a business plan, search the internet and you will find many options for templates, etc.
There are certain administrative requirements you will need including registering a business name, setting up systems to administer whatever you are doing. These include any payment systems, accounting or bookkeeping systems, cards, letterhead paper and procedures in place, like phone answering spiels, to ensure smooth function of your business. This should be put into place before you commence business.
While these steps are basic, they are important to lock in before you start so that you are well prepared for when the action begins.
